Q: Does Aubuchon Remodeling do design work?
A: We spend time designing your basement. Due to our 18 years experience, we have a lot of good ideas to share. We discuss the features that will add value to your home and those that will help to sell your house in the future. Although we offer our advice, in the end it is your basement and we will build it your way!

Q: Do we need a permit?
A: Permits will be applied for on all finished basements. This is to insure the safety of your family and comply with the law.

Q: Who will be working in our house?
A: Only Aubuchon Remodeling employees will be allowed in your home. The only exception to this is our licensed plumbing sub-contractor that we use. The law in St. Louis County requires that we use a licensed plumber to comply with their permits. There will be no other sub-contractors used. No one will be in your home unless they are supervised by me or my son.

Q: Will our house be kept clean?
A: Each day we put down runners to cover flooring and carpet. When we leave, they are removed until the next day.

Q: How can I be assured of your quality?
A: When you are given the proposal, you will be given a list of references. Some of these people we have been working with for 18 years. Please feel free to call any reference and ask about our work. If the job is done incorrectly the first time, we will redo it to meet your satisfaction. We work hard at being trustworthy!

Q: When will the job begin?
A: We will not give you a starting date that we cannot meet. Often the starting date will be three or four months out, but we will be truthful to you about the starting date. If someone else can start the work sooner, ask yourself why the person does not have any work. Quality craftsmen will be busy!

Q: Are suspended ceilings better?
A: We have found over the years that a drywall ceiling is better for a home's resale value. The initial cost of a suspended ceiling is less, but it may affect the resale value of your home because it does not look as finished as a drywall ceiling. So in the long run, the dropped ceiling will cost you more.

Q: How long does it take to finish a basement?
A: We are fairly aggressive with scheduling basement finishing and do not believe in idle time. Depending upon plumbing requirements, complexity, and product selection, our average schedule is 6 to 8 weeks.

Q: What are some special features we should consider before getting started?
A: Special features in a basement are anything that go beyond the basic walls, rooms, closets, etc. Specifically, fireplaces, executive bars, home theaters, and even unique built-ins are considered special features. These features should be decided and planned for at the start of your project in order to meet your schedule and budget requirements.

Q: Do you do all the work or can we do some ourselves to curb our expenses?
A: Categories required by Aubuchon Home Remodeling are framing, plumbing, heating, electrical, drywall, and finish trim carpentry. Categories that may be completed by the owner are low voltage electrical (phone, cable, speakers/entertainment wires), insulation, and paint/stain work. Other categories may be considered on a case by case basis, but are not typically completed by anyone other than Aubuchon Home Remodeling.

Q: Do you provide any remodeling or other residential work such as remodeling kitchens, remodeling bathrooms, building decks, or building additions?
A: Aubuchon Home Remodeling specializes in basement remodeling and refinishing and takes great pride in the quality of our work. We are able to achieve such high quality work by concentrating on that aspect of the construction industry. However, we are always happy to consider additional projects.

Q: Is Aubuchon Home Remodeling concerned about the environment?
A: Whenever we can, we use environmentally-friendly products. We do not use petroleum-based paint or cleaners. We go out of our way to provide more effective dust protection for your family. We know your heating and cooling costs are on the rise so wherever we can, we add insulation and seal cracks to keep costs down. We do our best to establish a higher standard for environmentally friendly quality and professional remodeling.

Q: Do the colors we choose make a difference in the cost?
A: Unless you choose a very dark color the price is the same no matter the color. We have found that the darker the color, the less light in the room. We will paint any of the 900 colors sold by Sherwin Williams.
